Gita Phogat biography
Many Indian families humble themselves, dutifully save them on the dowry for their daughters, simultaneously depriving them even in food, especially if the family also has sons, who, of course, get all the best. Those who can afford it try to give the boys a good education. Then the daughters almost children are married by conspiracy. So the girl falls into her husband’s family, where she can count mainly on the status of servants.
Of course, there are bright moments. At a respectable age, a woman can achieve a hint of respect. But only if she all these years regularly gave birth to sons. The daughter is not that they do not count, they nullify the chances of symbolic recognition. This preface leads us to a very inspiring and seemingly incredible story that began in one of the villages of Kharian a little less than twenty years ago and continues to this day.
And how it continues! He was a talented athlete-broter who, according to rumors, did not lose a single battle, even if the rivals were much larger and stronger than him. Mahavir dreamed of becoming a real champion known not only in Kharian, but also in the world. And probably would become.
But he did not calculate with feelings and married. And he began to regularly make children with his wife. What is characteristic - girls. The family grew up, it was difficult to combine training with earnings for feeding the family. Perhaps there were some other reasons, but the fact is that he had to forget about his sports dreams. If Mahavir had a son, then one could try to make him a fighter.
What is the use of girls? Moreover, women in sports have no place, not to mention the struggle. This is completely unthinkable. Women in Kharian do not even go for a run, risking themselves and the whole family with an indelible shame. So the whole village would have thought if this wild thought could have occurred to them at all. But not Mahavir. As soon as his older girls grew up, he began to train them.
His daughters, Gita and Babita, ran, jumped, performed strength exercises, studied struggle techniques, wore comfortable pants or shorts during training, it is not difficult to guess that such debauchery as girls in sports shorts in the villages of Kharyany still did not see each, in general, each, in general, were gloomy for two of their existence. Kharian.
Of course, all this caused great indignation and resistance of local residents. They tried to influence the abnormal Mahavira with persuasion, threats, contempt, ignore and other species of pressing, which last for several years, during which the unbearable Mahavir continued to train their daughters, and not only older, but also the younger ones. Part of the pressing fell to the girls, but the father was tired of being convinced that they were no worse than boys, and, like the boys, had the right to play sports and in general anything.
Having finally impatiently, Mahavir began to bring his daughters to local competitions. It is clear that there were no other girls among the wrestlers in Kharian, and it could not be, so they had to fight the guys. The indignation of local residents reached their limit. After all, Mahavir in front of their eyes corrupted his own daughters, and at the same time the minds of local residents, with delusional ideas that a woman is equal to a man and, like a man, can be capable of something.
Because even the Kharyansky horse is understandable - not equal, and cannot. Many wrestlers did not agree to this, and those who, for the sake of still agreed, usually left the wrestling field, regretting it deeply. Because the guita and Babita trained by his father managed to defeat even the guys. A little more time passed, and the daughters of Mahavira began to bring medals from a variety of international struggle competitions to their village.
And when they first brought gold and silver from the Commonwealth games until then none of the women in India reached such heights in the struggle, the village fell. The abnormal Mahavir suddenly became a hero. The unfortunate girls who perverted their feminine nature because of the psycho-father and lost all the chances of "getting married"-the pride of the state, enviable brides.
The local residents began to timidly knock on the house of Mahavira, who used to be bypassed, with requests to train their daughters too. Mahavir and his daughters were interested in sports organizations. Mahavir trained his daughters in the courtyard of the house, in the barn and in the field. Now he managed to build a gym with the necessary simulators and a small hostel for girls who were led to train.
In the village of Bhivani, the state of Kharian, where they often get rid of girls in all possible ways, lives a middle-aged coach-beare-Mahavir Singh Pkhogat. He has six daughters - four native and two adopted daughters of the deceased brother. And one son is the youngest. All his daughters and his son regularly participate in various wrestling competitions, from which honorary medals invariably bring.
In the year, his eldest daughter, Gita, became the first woman in India, who represented the country in fighting competitions at the Olympic Games. This year, Gita was not able to participate in the qualifying competitions due to injury, but her two sisters-Babita and Vinash-brilliantly passed the qualifying, and will represent India at the Olympics in Rio. The daughters of Mahavira are engaged in their favorite business, travel, study, appear on social networks, wear the clothes that they like, fully using the social and financial freedom that their father, who decided to go for the sake of this, provided for everyone.
And in Kharyan it began to take place previously impossible. Girls began to allow sports. Even a struggle. And although all previously these problems are still very relevant in this state, the situation of many girls and women, their living conditions, has improved markedly, thanks to a certain shift of society in the mind that a woman can also achieve a lot, as the Phorogat sisters did.
