Biography of Dimitry Prilutsky
In the glorious city of Pereslavl, a good branch grew from a good root: from glorious and rich parents engaged in trade, a wonderful holy lad Dimitri was born, nurtured by the imperishable milk of the Divine Scripture, a zealous imitator of our holy father Chrysostom. Without listening to empty words, without playing with children, not looking for honors and a tall dignity, the young lad read the holy books, having loved God from childhood, and God loved him.
In all, obeying his parents according to the Law of God, he neglected only the trade that his father led, for the habitually rich to look for perishable, earthly wealth. He was looking for God alone. From a young age, this lad was destined to go in a cramped and mournful way, take the Lord’s cross on your shoulders, to suffer a good yoke and a light jam, and to find peace of your soul.
Having rejected all the beauty of this world, for they are ashes and decay, without looking back, he left them and thereby reached the kingdom of God. Demetrius came to the Pereslavl monastery of the Holy Virgin, called Goritsky, and accepted the tonsure in him, and converted not only the Vlas of his head, but rejecting all his vanity, addictions and transient joys in him, only striking and following his footsteps.
Marking his will, he served as a monastery fraternity with obedience and humility, staying in prayer day and night. And this saint became such a wonderful post -member that many were marveled by his patience, humble wisdom and simplicity. For many of his virtues, God has been able to accept the rank of priesthood. Dimitrius, like a devoted servant who received his money from the master and returned it with great profit, accepted a great gift from the Lord, increased him and became like a fortress at the top of the mountain, visible to everyone from afar.
Many monks and laity who thirsty for the kingdom of heaven and who came to him with a desire to escape, the Rev. left in the monastery and tonsured monasticism, accepting them with love like a fat loving father. The brethren of the monastery answered him the same, obeying the bliss as the angel of God. It happened to the reverend to be a wondrous interlocutor in the miracles and the great all Rus' of the lamp - the Monk Sergius of the Wonderworker, grazing his spiritual herd.
Demetrius came to him to the monastery of the Holy Life -Giving Trinity, where they with love handed each other a blessing and spiritual teaching - the servants of a single Lord in the Holy Spirit. Returning to his monastery, Blessed for a long time he pondered what was said about himself and about his herd. They say that for a long time among the people who saw him in the world, there were stories that the Monk Demetrius was very beautiful in his face, like the ancient Joseph Beautiful, the son of Jacob from the righteous family of Abraham.
Like Joseph, Blessed Demetrius, not only bodily, but also spiritual beauty and purity, and God's grace always rested on it. That is why the saint chose an even more severe, post -jealous life, his carnal beauty and vain thoughts about it, draining and killing. But the more he exacerbated abstinence, labor and prayer, the more enlightened his face, blooming from a pure post.
Blessed was the custom not only in the cell and the church, but also outside them to always cover their face with a doll according to the custom of the foreign, almost without talking with the worldly, and never with women, except for those who were spiritually necessary. And all the people marveled to the saint - as the beauty of the bodily neglected God for the sake of, preferring her post, patience, prayer and labor.
A miracle about the relaxed wife of the saint was located near the city and usually during the service of the laity - men, women and children - came to church for prayer. The wife of a certain husband in the city came to the monastery for a prayer, but she could never see the faces of the Monk, since, we remember, the blessed hid him. The wife, who heard stories about his former beauty and chastity, began to look for the opportunity to see him and once found the saint in the cell when he was preparing for the divine service.
Blessed, seeing the shameless, was very saddened. But as soon as he blinded her light from the angelic face of the saint, enlightened by fast, immediately attacked his wife a certain horror and she relaxed with his whole body, not understanding why she wanted to see him. Barely alive led her brethren to the door of the saint’s cells and begged the Monk to forgive the ignorant, who was boring the Holy Spirit, resting on his chosen ones.
And he overshadowed her with a sign of the Cross, blessed and gave her forgiveness. The wife immediately recovered, stood up and went into her house, with fear and joy, glorifying God and the reverend of the miracle worker, reproaching himself in everything that happened. Everyone heard and rejoiced about this miracle, glorifying God, who gave the world such a saint - the doctor to the sore.
The glory of him reached not only the Pereslavl, but also the most ruling the Russian kingdom of the Lieuscous and in the victories of the pre -trial, the faithful and Christ -loving Prince Demetrius, who won the great victory of the Don over the wicked Tatars for the Orthodox faith and the holy churches with the prayers of all the Russian saints. And he, having heard of the reverend of Demetrius, with joy called him to himself in order to ask the blessings of his house, and revered him in the same way as another pillar of Rus' - the great Sergius.
Having asked Demetrius to baptize one of his sons, the Grand Duke, as befits, honored the holy with the royal gifts and gave him great honors. But Blessed, seeing himself in the great glory, an urgent person, even more loved God, considering all this by the futility and not wanting the bustle of the Breeded Light. From such a glory and praise, the saint fled like a bird from the network, like a silak, and leaving his homeland, he left Pereslavl, taking with him only one student - a plowing, devoted to him in everything and his like in a humble life, who told us a lot about the life and miracles of the Monk, following him in virtues.
Holy, patiently, simply and firmly, he went through his life and was the abbot of the monastery of the elderly of blessed Demetrius. But let's go back to the form. When the saint left his monastery, he headed north, towards the Cold Sea, where he wanted to please God in silence. Having passed the impenetrable forests and the jungle adjacent to the degree of Vologda, he decided to stop in these sparseous places.
As the Lord pleases - it will be so, whoever wants to save where - there will be saved there. The teacher and student found a place at the mouth of the Lyazhi River and set up a church here in the name of the Holy Resurrection of Christ. The devil, who hated the human race, incited ungrateful people from the near village of Avnegh to expose to the saint. And as he once left, abandoning the wealth of earthly, he now retired from those who did not wish to bless these places, and thereby defeated the crafty and insidious devil.
About the arrival of the saint at Vologda, the Providence of God lied to the saint into Vologda for the blessing of the inhabitants recently attached to Christianity. And the place where the difficult relics of the blessed will then rest, as if waiting for him, so that the Rev. to the end destroy the intrigues of the devilish and not only during his lifetime, but also, after the death of demons, drove away, which was done by his prayers.
Oh Christ! Who will not be surprised to remember the humility of the saint? What praise is worthy of a man who left all the affection of the world of this God for the sake of the glory of the human, without accepting the gifts and honor of the prince and his nobles? We hated ourselves, but we had no anger and anger at anyone, not that we, the current hypocrites who strive for the glory of the perishable, loving glory and revere ourselves for honest people.
Blessed was not sinful in this, having loved more than all Christ. But back to the previous one. Soon, gathering, the saint left Avnega, wandering around someone else's land and not knowing where to lean his head. When Demetrius came to Vologda, he saw a city decorated with many churches, only there was no church of the all -mall Savior of our Jesus Christ to the origin of an honest cross and there was no dormitory monastery near the monks of the land from the Volga of the river to the edge of the sea.
The reverence fell in love with a place three miles from the city, on the bend of the river. The ceremonial residents there - the Ilya’s eminent husband and his friend and neighbor Isidor, nicknamed the nicknamed - gave him as much land at his request as it took him to organize the monastery. For the sake of love for him and for the sake of blessing, they even neglected the sown field with the already risen winter, allowing him to trample the Niva in order to put the Church of God.
In the place that the saint blessed, a cross was established, which is still stored in the monastery. What joy and surprise were the townspeople and the inhabitants of the neighboring villages when they heard about the arrival of the blessed: as if the Lord himself visited their people, giving them such a holy miracle worker, so that his faith in the Lord increased by his blessing and prayers.
Then everything - large and small, rich and miserable, every age - ahead of each other, rushed into the monastery, as if to acquire an invaluable pearl - to take a blessing from the saint and hand him his bribe, bringing money, who is a construction forest, and another necessary to the monastery. Soon a large church was set in the name of the Savior of our Jesus Christ, the Most Holy Mother of God and in honor of the Cross of Christ, on the first day of August to consecrate the waters.
And to this day on this holiday to those who come with faith, many healings are served by the prayers of the miracle worker Demetrius from the Holy Water and from the relics of the Blessed. This was the first large dormitory monastery on Vologda, arranged by the Monk, here the saint began to live insoluly with the Brotherhood. Having learned about the holiness of his life, many monks from his former monastery in Pereslavl began to come to him.
The all -domed and missile Grand Duke Demetrius, learning about where his ancient elder abides, with a joyful heart sent him great gifts to the arrangement of the monastery. Although a large distance shared them, but spiritual love and faith do everything to loved ones. The reverend’s heart had a simple and ingenuous. According to his command in the church, a special place was arranged on the left side of the altar, fenced with boards, where he could secretly from all with tears and a crushed heart without fuss to send his prayers to God.The prophecy of the saint should also be mentioned that the blessed was the gift of prophecy.
The brethren, which happened to be at the same time, heard everything and did not understand, did not know what the saint was talking about, only remembered those words and kept them in her heart. The memories of another prophecy of the saint. He had in his Pereslavl a brother who is engaged in trade. Having impoverished strongly, he came to the reverend and asked the blessings to go trade with the Gentiles called by Yugra and the Pecher, to those places where the miracle and itself live.
Seeing his impoverishment, the revered old man blessed him to go there.
He, taking his own and someone else's, went with the servants of the Grand Duke and returned home with a profit, health and sound, getting rid of debts. In the next summer, his brother again came to the blessed, asking the blessing to go there. The saint for the needs of his home again blessed him to go and he returned again, bringing great wealth. But human eyes are always insatiable, taking gold, do not know - for which his brother was collected and for the third time, asking for blessings.
Do not go to the Gentiles of the beast -like telling further about the life of the Monk. Blessedly did not change his prayer rule, but urged the works, combining the post with alms, eating asking and accepting the wanderers passing by. His monastery was at the crossroads of many roads, and even from it it was possible to get to the Great Sea-Ocean. The reverend was dressed - naked, comforted - sad, helped the poor, delivering them from trouble and healing with prayer, paid other people's debts and forgave his debtors himself, in a word, eliminating the evil judges, sinners - there was a teacher’s repentance, everyone wants salvation.
Often the blessed gave alms secretly from the brethren so that they would not murmur, destroying the retribution of the next century with his murmur. The saint himself loved in clothes such wretchedness that he was like one of the poor. In winter and summer, he wore a robe of hard sheepskin leather, in winter - endured cold, and in the summer - shedding later. Often in the same clothes he walked on his wretched field two miles from the monastery to look at his employee Gregory, sowing bread.
The prayers of the Monk were enough of his brotherhood with excess. So blessed depressed his flesh and fasted so humbly that if on which holiday not very strict food was allowed during a meal, he ate only a kelanre placed in a small clay vessel with warm or hot water with a slight prosphore. It seemed to see the steam from the clay cup that in front of the abbot is some kind of exquisite food.
St. Demetrius was a true teacher of repentance to many. Somehow one of the neighboring inhabitants, a famous Christian, already named above, brought the brethren to the monastery the necessary food and drink for God's sake. The reverend did not tell them to take, not the food of Hul, but the Christian instructing him to be a true merciful to everyone. Every father is a child -loving, if he beats his son, then it has mercy on him, and again hesitates - comforts.
Ilya, after listening to the instruction, promised to continue to fulfill everything said by the abbot, so that the master would not be angry with his servant. And barely begged the saint to take the brethren now brought on a meal for the glory of God, and to him - as a reward and fortification. The saint made a lot of good to him, once he saved Him with his blessing from great trouble, for it was habitual to do the benefit of every person to create a good.
Having lived for so many years, going with a mournful and narrow way, he reached a blessed honest and venerable old age, the small part of his beard was not fully decorated with her age, and became completely weak.
